There are many ways to help remove acne, one of which is gentle exfoliation for acne removal.

This is the process of employing a gentle but slightly rough product to rub and wash the skin and remove the top layer of dead skin.

Most other types of acne treatment aim exclusively at the skin itself, but these preparations get the best results when used in partnership with other acne removal procedures.

Exfoliating the skin can be one of the most effective methods for getting rid of acne, or to prepare the skin for other acne control if carried out appropriately.

A gentle exfoliation for acne removal product to try is the

Olay Regenerist Detoxifying Pore Scrub

There are quite a lot of products aimed at exfoliation for acne removal which you can readily find in pharmacists and even supermarkets.

These products can be a rough scrub product or a liquid cleanser with micro fine sand like particles prepared specifically for the purpose of removing surface skin. These are the most widespread kinds of products employed for exfoliating.

Salicylic Acid Exfoliation

On another level, exfoliation can be carried out chemically by using substances like salicylic acid found in exfoliation cleansing treatment pads. These preparations help peel back the upper layer of skin.

The idea of getting rid of skin by means of acid may come across a bit too drastic, but it is nothing to worry about if done professionally or according to instructions. The acid used for this exfoliation process is extremely mild and is simply a means to remove unwanted dead skin.

The aim is to use these products to help remove the top layer of dead skin and prevent your skin’s pores from being blocked by excessive oil, dead skin cells and dirt. This blockage inside the skin’s cells whether from oil or dirt is how acne develops.

These types of exfoliation products can be used as both preventive measures for skin prone to acne or as a treatment for existing acne breakouts.

Products with Antiseptic Elements

When you are already suffering from a breakout of acne you can use exfoliating products that have some treatment properties inside it. Normally these products will combine either an abrasive or acidic characteristic for exfoliation with an antiseptic element to decrease the bacteria levels of the skin.

You have to make a judgment as to whether these products would result in more discomfort or irritation to your skin, or whether it will help in the elimination and healing process of acne.

When not to use exfoliation for acne removal

If you have weeping or already sore prone acne, exfoliation may not be a good idea. At all times use these products precisely as directed by the manufacturer or by your physician to get the best results.

There may be some noticeable flaking of the skin particularly when you first start using exfoliation for acne removal. This is to be expected and should not cause too much concern. Just remember that even oily skin needs moisture and an oil free moisturizer is a good idea to keep skin supple and hydrated.

In a lot of brands and products, you will find moisturizers that will work in conjunction with the exfoliating product. Exfoliating is an effective way to keep your pores clean and free from impurities.

But remember, not all acne will benefit from exfoliation and you should seek advise before embarking on an exfoliation for acne removal program.

Hello,

Thank you for visiting my website about the best treatment for acne scars. My name is Michaela Korr.

For the longest time I suffered from acne. During my teenage years I don’t think I ever wore anything that exposed my back or my upper arms. Swimming costumes were always worn under t-shirts.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t cover my face up (although I had wished fervently many times that I could) and had to suffer embarrassment and to a certain humiliation growing up. Who wanted to be feel ugly? Or looked at in a weird way? Or worst yet, to be ignored?

My mum dragged me to her friend a beautician to ‘extract’ all the blackheads and pimples. It wasn’t a nice experience and you looked even worse for a few days after, but to a certain extend it worked…. provided you kept going back (and it was not cheap).

Then she took me to another friend who was a dermatologist and that was worse. He had a severe dislike for beauticians and decided to do what a beautician would do to my face to make a point. Only it was a lot less gentle and to this day, I can still see the looks on all those faces in the crowded waiting room when I came out. I looked and felt pretty ‘battered’ for a few days.

Finally with another doctor (I refused to go back to the first one, friend or not) I was put on acne antibiotics. That helped but it was not a long term solution and soon after I stopped taking the medication, the acne came back.

Now meanwhile I was not eating properly. Which teenager does? And I was diagnosed as a diabetic. Had I known then what I know now, I would have tackled my acne very differently.

Firstly I would have eaten a lot better and taken supplements. If you read my posts about acne vitamins and acne diet, you will see a list of stuff that’s good for your skin and for acne. That’s from years of experience.

Alpha Lipoic Acid acne scar and skin treatment was not well known then, and is still being looked into now, but that is another supplement I would have taken to heal my scars and keep my skin healthy. I take it religiously now everyday and my skin is fine.

Zinc would have been another one. Actually, I found that mens’ multi-vitamins contain a lot more zinc than female ones, mainly because zinc is vital to the reproductive organs (ie: sperm production), whereas female multi-vitamins had more calcium, to combat loss of bone density.

Anyway, the thing that really made a huge difference to me was blood sugar control. Even if you do not have diabetes (but beware as it is a disease that is becoming much more common), sugar should be avoided. That and too much carbohydrates in a diet – things like rice, pasta, bread, potatoes…. and of course cakes, biscuits, sugary drinks (that includes pure fruit juice).

Check out the post I did a on adult acne and pre-diabetes

My acne only improved when my blood sugar was under control. And if you are an adult with acne, have a family history of diabetes and carry excess weight around your waist, get checked.

Finally, modern technology has enabled many new acne scar treatments to become available. Things such acne scar dermabrasion and acne laser treatment are some of the acne scar treatments worth looking into.

This is a blog about all us acne and acne scar sufferers past and present. I would love to hear your thoughts, stories, experiences and suggestions, and would appreciate your taking the time to leave a comment.

Thank you.

What is Acne Rosacea?

Acne Rosacea affects mainly adults with fair women in their menopausal stages most susceptible. It also affects mostly middle aged men and can be identified by red flushed rough patches all over the face and in some cases, a red warty and enlarged nose.

So what causes Acne Rosacea?

Acne Rosacea is a dilation of the blood vessels that make the skin look red persistently. The blotchy redness will usually cover the whole face with tiny blood vessels visible underneath the skin.

Red bumps and pimples, together with skin swelling that is tender to the touch are common signs. If untreated the nose may also enlarged and looks warty (rhinophyma).

So how do you get Rosacea and acne Rosacea?

Although the exact cause of Rosacea is unknown, it is believed that a skin infection called Demodex folliculorum (an excessive presence of skin mites) could trigger it.

Often people do not realize they have it, but the first signs of cheek and nose flushing, when a sort of ‘red mask’ spreads across the face will give an indication that Rosacea is present.

Consulting a doctor at the first signs will significantly reduce disfigurement of the face.

What aggravates Rosacea and acne Rosacea?

Everyone differs but usually alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks (allow it to cool to room temperature first), strong sun light or strong winds, temperatures that are too hot or too cold (avoid hot baths, saunas, hot tubs), and skin products that are too harsh such as those with alcohol will aggravate the problem.

Foods to avoid include: alcohol, caffeine, dairy products, eggs, too much salt, saturated fats and sugar, chocolate, and spicy foods such as hot curries or chillies.

Wear cotton especially around the neck area or close to the face. Avoid clothing that’s too tight as the rubbing will cause irritation. Avoid make up if you can, but if you must wear it, make sure the products are for sensitive skin, are not oil based and made of natural ingredients as much as possible.

Use soap free dermatological cleansers to wash the face and avoid oily and scented soaps.

Other contributing factors could include vitamin deficiencies, stress and anxiety.

Take a good supplement with the anti-oxidants A,C & E, make sure there is a good representation of the vitamin B complex, and very importantly, Primrose oil as it contains linoleic acid.

Do NOT use topical steroid cream as it just makes the condition worse. Consult your doctor for anti-inflammatory drugs that will reduce the swelling and redness.

However, long term drug taking is not the solution. Next post we will look at some plants and herbs that will help sufferers of acne rosacea.

Acne Skin Care

Yes I know you know how to clean your face.

But there are some deadly sins when it comes to acne skin care or washing skin that have acne eruptions already.

Below are 7 deadly acne skin care tips on how to wash your face properly so that you can rid of your acne, not aggravate it.

The 7 Deadly Acne Skin Care Tips:

1) Use a mild soap. A lot of people think that if they use a stronger soap, it will help get rid of acne quicker. Much like if you drink stronger coffee, you will stay awake longer. It could not be more false. Irritating your already sensitive skin with strong detergent like soap will not only make the problem worse, it will dry your skin out so much you will look as if you have dandruff on your face. Ugh!

So steer clear of these super strong soap, and use something mild, with a PH balance of 5.5, and that is proven to be gentle on the skin. Finally, keep the water temperature at room temperature as too hot or too cold water could hamper your acne skin care routine.

2) Go easy when you wash.

Again, scrubbing with a face cloth or a brush, or worse yet using exfoliates will only make your skin break out more. Basically what you are doing is breaking the skin where the pimples are and spreading the infection. The broken skin gets infected, the pimple gets worse and well… you know the rest.

3) Do not use a towel to dry your face.

This was a tip I got from my dermatologist and it really helped. He told me to use disposable kitchen towels, the type that you wipe spills with and throw the towel away each time. More germs are found on cloth towels and if you do not change them everyday, you are harboring bacteria in the same towel you use to dry your freshly washed face. It’s a bit like drying yourself with a filthy towel after a shower. Defeats the whole purpose, doesn’t it?

4) Do not forget to wash places like your hairline.

Yup, you wash your face, all the main bits and you forget the parts where the pimples like most : the hair line, the jawline, and the side of your face right by your ears. The neck is also super important so don’t forget it either.

By the way, keep your hair off your face no matter how trendy the look. Bits of hair (especially unclean hair) brushing constantly against your skin could irritate it and hamper your acne skin care efforts.

5) No strong astringents.

You know the type, you can smell the alcohol a mile away. You may think you are disinfecting your face and killing off all the acne germs, but it is false thinking. Again this is too strong and will dry up all the natural oils your skin produces, which your skin will compensate by producing more oils to try and balance out the lack of natural oils on your face. Result? More oil, more blockages, more pimples. Need I say more?

6) Acne skin care is not a problem on the outside only.

Acne is a problem on the inside just as much as on the outside of your body. If you eat crap, your skin will look like crap plain and simple. Drinking not enough water, smoking, eating too much processed foods, constipation, lack of sleep – all these things will contribute to more acne problems. So do the right thing on the outside, but do yourself a favor and take care of your insides too. Your skin is your ‘third kidney’ and toxins will come out this way if you are too loaded up with toxins. Think about it.

7) Use natural products to treat various problems.

Witch hazel, lavender and tea tree oils are great to treat problem areas. Use pure aloe vera to condition your skin.
